  About

The Burlington Figure Skating Club was founded in 1953 with less than 100 members. Our mission statement is to:

“Promote the sport of skating within the City of Burlington. Promote and maintain the Burlington Skating Centre with high standards of skating, sportsmanship and fellowship. Ensure that a balanced program of instruction for recreational and competitive skating is offered. Provide both test stream and competitive stream skaters with facilities, coaching in a stable environment that allows them to have fun and excel at all levels by operating our centre on a year round basis, providing programming for all four seasons.”

The Burlington Skating Centre has been working with the City of Burlington to provide programs for the children of this community for 60 years. In 1994 the City of Burlington requested the Burlington Figure Skating Club take over the City’s learn to skate program. We officially changed our name to The Burlington Skating Centre in hopes of having our own “Centre of Excellence” to continue to train our growing membership of varying talent.

The expertise and well executed programs assisted our club to become the fourth largest centre in Canada today. We currently have a membership of over 1200 skaters with 7- Nexxice Synchronized Skating teams from Juvenile to Senior with 14-22 skaters on each team. Our Nexxice Senior Team became our first Team to earn a World Bronze Medal at the 2007 World Synchronized Skating Event. We have programs from the pre-school level to competitive. We have earned medals Nationally, Internationally and at the World level. We also had a skater compete at the 1984 Olympics.

The City of Burlington and The Burlington Ice User Committee has worked collaboratively with us to assist in providing an ice surface required for optimal training. The new Appleby – Pad B incorporates temperature controlled ice along with a room for off-ice strength training (Sport Specific Training), Ballet, and Pilates (Millcroft Fitness).

We continue to raise the bar on efficient, cost effective, skillful programming to remain one of the largest, most well respected clubs in Canada. Our skaters are successful through the Star skate and Competitive stream which is an unusual and difficult task. Most clubs in Canada are either recreational learn to skate clubs or competitive. The Burlington Skating Centre is successful at all levels and in all streams of Skate Canada’s programs. Our success is due to the brilliant Technical Director and coaching staff supported by The President and the Board of Directors along with our dedicated volunteers, but most importantly the great children we have impacted along the way teaching them life lessons through their passion of skating!
